The City of Waterloo has renewed their BlackBerry service plan for three years in the amount of $516,000. Here is what the mayor had to say about employees having a smartphone device:

“A lot of our crews will have them — all our planners, our bylaw guys who are out, firefighters,” she said. “We just feel that it keeps us connected so that if we need to get anything done we have instant connection.”

Mayor Brenda Halloran added the city is not considering using a different brand of smartphone other than BlackBerrys at this time. Good to see more and more larger companies, local businesses and now the city of Waterloo supporting BlackBerry.
