Bramble runs on advertising revenue. That shapes what data we collect, how we use it, and what you can do about it. This policy covers all of that, plainly.

What We Collect

There are two categories: what you hand us directly, and what we pick up automatically.

Data you provide:

  • Your name and email address if you contact us or sign up for anything we run.
  • Whatever you include in a message, tip, or submission.

Data collected automatically:

  • Your IP address and general location inferred from it.
  • Device type, operating system, and browser.
  • Pages you visit on this site, how long you spend on them, and how you got here.
  • Referring URLs and on-site navigation paths.

We collect the automatic stuff through standard server logs and tracking technologies described in the next section.

We use cookies — small text files stored in your browser — and comparable identifiers. They fall into three distinct categories:

Strictly necessary cookies keep the site functioning. Without them, basic page delivery breaks. These don't require your consent and can't be switched off through our systems.

Advertising & Third Parties

Bramble is supported by advertising. Ads appear on this site. That's the deal, and we're straightforward about it.

We work with third-party advertising networks, supply-side platforms (SSPs), demand-side platforms, and measurement vendors. These partners operate their own tracking technologies — cookies, pixels, device identifiers — to:

  • Deliver ads to readers on this site.
  • Measure whether those ads were seen and acted upon.
  • Build audience segments for interest-based (personalized) advertising — meaning ads targeted to you based on inferred interests, browsing history, or demographic data.

We do not hand your data to these vendors personally. What happens is this: their code runs on our pages, and they collect data about your visit directly. We receive aggregate reporting; they operate under their own privacy policies.

This activity may constitute a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information under California law (CCPA/CPRA) and similar US state statutes, even though no money changes hands for your individual data. We're obligated to tell you that, and we are.

How to opt out of interest-based advertising:

  • Use your browser's built-in controls to block or delete third-party cookies.
  • Enable Global Privacy Control (GPC) in a compatible browser — we recognize it as an opt-out signal.
  • Visit optout.aboutads.info (DAA) or youronlinechoices.com (EDAA, for European readers) to use the industry opt-out mechanisms.

Opting out doesn't remove ads from the site. It means the ads you see are less tailored to your browsing profile.

Your Rights & How to Exercise Them

If you're in the EEA or UK (GDPR):

You have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you; to restrict or object to processing; and to data portability where applicable. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

If you're in California or another US state with a privacy law (CCPA/CPRA and equivalents):

You have the right to know what personal information we collect and how it's used, to delete it, to correct it, and — critically — to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for targeted advertising. We do not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.

Retention & Security

We keep contact and submission data only as long as it's needed for the purpose it was collected — editorial follow-up, legal compliance, or dispute resolution. Automatically collected log data is retained for limited periods and then purged or anonymized.

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect what we hold. No system is impenetrable; we don't promise otherwise.

Children

Bramble is a general-audience publication, is not directed to children under 13, and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this policy in a material way, we'll note the revised date at the top. Continued use of the site after changes means you've seen them.
