Here’s a great little app for all of you that have been missing the holster profile settings we use to have available in the BlackBerry legacy devices, it’s called Holster Profile and it’s made by Toysoft Development. This seems to be a very popular feature that BlackBerry decided we didn’t need anymore in BlackBerry 10 devices, but this app takes care of that oversight for us.
If you aren’t too sure what Holster Profile is all about here’s a quick description. It is a headless application that allows you to assign different sound notifications when you put your BlackBerry device in the Holster, and when you take the BlackBerry out of the Holster. You can also change the volume for alert and notification and the main volume for applications.
Another great thing about Holster Profile is how easy it is to setup (takes less than 30 seconds). On the main screen there are two tab icons, “In Holster” and “Out Holster”. Both screens are identical with the same settings so all you have to do is set the notification you want for in and out of the holster. After that just close the application since it runs in the background (headless) and doesn’t need an active frame.
Please note, Holster Profile does not blink the LED or play ringtones. It only changes the notification settings, volume and the main volume.
As you can see the developer has tried to make this app very easy to use and setup but if for some reason you do run into problems the customer support is one of the best out there. It’s great to see Toysoft stepping up and creating an app for a feature many folks have said they miss from the BBOS days.
