All BlackBerry services in the UAE to both individuals and to business customers will continue, The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) confirmed in a statement today.
Last year, the United Arab Emirates had an issue with the encrypted server system that BlackBerry used to keep all information secure that BlackBerry users sent andĀ receivedĀ using BlackBerry Messenger, e-mail and the Web browser. The UAE threatned to suspend all services, unless RIM located its encrypted services in the UAE.
The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) said only businesses with 20 or more subscriptions will be allowed to use high security accounts on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES), which allows for services such as highly secure corporate e-mail.
Smaller businesses have the option of buying additional BES accounts, which could be quite a financial burden. Both individual users and small companies will still be able to use the ordinary, less secure BlackBerry Internet and e-mail services.
