I love this. RIM is starting to get serious. Once you add touch to a full QWERTY device and update your current touch devices, I think it’s safe to say they (RIM) aren’t going anywhere, at least for a while. After all, Mike has already spoke about planning for the next “10 years.” N4BB recently reported on the development of the anticipated Storm 3, codename Monaco. The New reported Storm is set to launch with a 3.7-in touchscreen, trackpad, 512MB RAM, OS 6, and possibly a 1GHz processor. Since BB6.1 was announced today, it’s a possibility the device will launch with that OS. The most noted difference is SurePress has been ditched, putting it in the ring with the Torch 9800 as being the ultimate”touch” BlackBerry.
Comparing it to the current Torch 9800, the original Torch is launched with a 624 MHz processor, 512 MB internal flash memory, 4GB built-in storage memory, 4GB microSD card included, Half-VGA+ display (360 x 480 at 188ppi) 3.2” (diagonally measured). Capacitive traditional touch screen (no SurePress), Optical trackpad, BlackBerry 6 OS.

If true, the Storm 3 Monaco could be a potential Torch 9800 Killer, depending on your view. A nice screen, a faster processor, and possible updated OS gives it an extra punch, so the Torch needs to respond. Actually, talks on Torch 2 were disclosed today, unofficially. If reports are true, the Torch 2 will be equipped with a 1.2GHz processor, Magnetometer,Accelerometer,Proximity sensor, 1300 mAh battery,BlackBerry OS,6.1, OpenGL ES and more. The Torch 2 looks like it will put up a better fight against the Storm 3 Monaco.
What do you think? I hope 6.1 is a nice incentive to keep us on our heels for the new BlackBerry “SuperPhone.”
