BlackBerry 6 Torch Update Brings Many Needed Improvements

9800osUpdate-1-1024x682

I do not own a Torch, but when I messed with one, my overall thought was, “It’s ok”, wonder when its going to get better. Well today, AT&T released a new OS for the Torch that mostly fixed speed and responsiveness issues that have been lingering since the launch of BB6. OS update v6.0.0.246 brings to the table many needed improvements which will give you much faster page loading along with quicker app launching. Page rendering should decrease and even improved responsiveness has been added after unlocking the smartphone. The quality of call audio and scrolling are expected to be improved with v6.0.0.246. Pretty big list if you ask me. According to ATT, this will be an “overall system performance improvement”, so Torch users will have to see for themselves.

Full Improvements

  • Browser – faster page loading and improved panning
  • User input – handled more efficiently, improved responsiveness after unlocking device
  • Applications – faster launching, exiting and switching
  • Home Screen – faster rendering and smoother transitions when switching between panes
  • Media – faster rendering of thumbnails in picture application
  • Email/Messaging – faster and smoother scrolling in message list and when reading email
  • Voice– Software improvements for improved audio quality
