WhatsApp, the cross platform messaging client for BlackBerry 10 has received an update today, bringing the version up to 2.1.1.604.2. This release brings improvements to the client overall including a new in-app media browser and more.

Whilst opinions are just opinions, I’m pretty sure the majority of BlackBerry users prefer BBM over anything. However, WhatsApp holds a respectable and prominent place in the messaging game. Nonetheless, the folks over at WhatsApp have done a pretty good job in developing the native app and today, they’ve brought over the following improvements:

  • New in-app media browser
  • Improved face proximity detection during voice message playback (10.2)
  • Holding Alt while tapping Emoji on the Q-series now prevents the picker from closing
  • Chat screen settings to change “Send” button behavior and show the floating action bar (under ‘Advanced Settings’)
  • Improved performance when opening chats from the hub
  • Miscellaneous bug fixes
