BlackBerry is set to receive $10 million over the next 5 years from the Novia Scotia government in efforts to retain jobs.

Nova Scotia Premier Darrell Dexter said in return, BlackBerry has committed to spend $4 million a year on a facility that would purchase new equipment and conduct research and development

There is a policy that BlackBerry must retain at least 400 employees to qualify for a $2 million per year incentive from the province. A BlackBerry official said the government approached the company asking what it could do to help it stay in Nova Scotia after the last round of layoffs.

“They were going through a core review,” Darrel Dexter said, referring to the BlackBerry’s ressurection. “I didn’t want these people working in Waterloo, Ont. I wanted them working here in Nova Scotia.

Seems like a win win for all parties here.
