Free Sprint Zone Application Makes It Easy and Convenient for Customers to Interact with Sprint from Virtually Anywhere

Sprint (NYSE:S) announced today Sprint Zone, a free application that makes it easy for Sprint customers to pay bills, manage their account and check voice and data usage right from their device. While on the go, customers also can receive information about the latest products and services available from Sprint and suggested applications. It is designed to make customers’ lives easier and more convenient. 

The Sprint Zone is currently available as an icon on the HTC EVO(TM) 4G, Samsung Intercept(TM) and BlackBerry Bold9(TM). In addition, the application will be available on future devices, including the Samsung Epic(TM) 4G and the Motorola i1, as an icon on the home screen.

The Sprint Zone Application includes: 

  • My Sprint – tools and information for customers to manage their accounts, pay bills, view voice, text and data usage
  • My Sprint News – keeps customers informed and engaged with up-to-date news and information to enhance their wireless experience
  • Suggested Apps – highlights useful applications in a variety of categories
  • Phone Tips and Tricks – videos and information about how to use their device

Sprint Zone is an easy to use, customer friendly, application that will be fully explained to customers along with all the features of their wireless device with the Sprint Ready Now program in Sprint retail stores. Through Ready Now, Sprint retail associates can show customers how to use their Sprint phone to take advantage of the benefits offered by Sprint, including the Sprint 3G Network, Sprint 4G Network and the thousands of apps downloadable on Android and Blackberry devices and feature phones. 

Casual data charges of $0.03/kb and standard text messaging charges will apply to customers not on a plan with unlimited data and messaging. 

Calling All Developers: Submit Your Apps for the Sprint Zone 

Developers interested in having their applications featured within Sprint Zone need to submit their app to the Sprint(R) Apps Pitch Box located at . Selection will be determined by relevance and best customer experience on the Nationwide Sprint(R) Network, Nextel(R) National Network and Sprint 4G network. To keep the content within Sprint Zone appealing for customers, Sprint will update the featured applications on a reoccurring basis. Select apps also will be featured in Sprint advertising, online, through social media and point-of-sale materials.

1PC World‘s test involved Sprint, AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile in 13 major cities in all regions of the country during December 2009 and January 2010. In all, roughly 9,000 individual tests of Sprint’s 3G service were conducted from 280 testing locations in 13 cities. Testing sessions were one minute in duration per location, and network performance can be highly variable from neighborhood to neighborhood. In laptop-based tests, Sprint tied with another carrier for first in 3G network reliability.
