Sprint Delays PlayBook Launch Again

Remember when we reported that Sprint was set to launch the PlayBook on May 8th? Well it seems big yellow has decided to push back that date yet again. Now the mobile carrier states they don’t have a time frame on when the release will be set, but clearly states it thinks the PlayBook is not yet ready for release on the Sprint network.

The news comes shortly after Verizon contemplated not even carrying the new BlackBerry PlayBook, refusing to state why. Now we hear the news is spreading throughout the mobile carriers as it seems the bitter taste is still in the mouths of the purchasers as they try and recoup costs of low sales numbers on devices that were projected to increase profit margins. Sprint will be delaying the release of he WiFi as well as 4G version of the device to “late summer”.

Although this comes as a shock for most Sprint customers, being the third time Sprint has delayed the PlayBook’s release, it might come as a relief to some with rumors surrounding the 10″ BlackBerry PlayBook find light. It’s rare to see a carrier put off a device with the sole purpose of its underpreparedness for market launch. Although as most BlackBerry users will acknowledge, it’s the first time RIM will be actually caving in to consumer demand if the rumors about the 10″ PlayBook are in fact, true.

I guess we’ll all have to hold tight while the big wigs figure everything out, in the mean time with no definitive answer in queue, Verizon customers can lavish in the fact that they may be the first to get their hands on the 3G and 4G models of the device this Fall or Winter.
