SMS Bridge for BlackBerry PlayBook – Read your SMS on your PlayBook!

SMS Bridge forwards the SMS received on BlackBerry® phone to BlackBerry® PlayBook™ in the form of an email, your PlayBook being bridged to your BlackBerry® phone. Reading your SMS on BlackBerry PlayBook is comfortable thanks to its large screen.

In the same way as BlackBerry® Bridge to be downloaded and run in BlackBerry® phone, SMS Bridge also must be downloaded and run in BlackBerry® phone. SMS Bridge simply makes a copy of the received SMS into an email then inserts it into BlackBerry® mail inbox. Automatically a new mail will pop up on BlackBerry PlayBook with the SMS content, assuming your PlayBook is connected to your BlackBerry® phone via BlackBerry® Bridge.

SMS Bridge needs to be started only once. Then it will be automatically restarted on power off/on. The user interface of SMS Bridge shows two buttons:

– Button “Go into background” : click this button to have SMS Bridge start running. The application will be automatically restarted on power down/up

– Button “Kill the appli and exit” to stop SMS Bridge. It will be actually stopped only after a full power down. The application will not be automatically restarted.

The following features are not guaranteed. They work on my phone but may not work on the yours:
– By replying to the (SMS) email on PlayBook, you reply to the SMS. In fact your response (SMS) is sent out by SMS Bridge (this application). SMS bridge not only translates incoming SMS into email for PlayBook, it also translates an email from the bridged PlayBook, adressed to e.g. 1234567890@bb.sms, into an outbound SMS for the phone “1234567890”.
– The two latest phone calls, either incoming or outgoing or unanswered, appear in your mail InBox. By replying to the email, you send out a SMS to your call party. This feature allows you to send quickly a SMS without looking into Contact Book. It improves your efficiency in business.
