Russia May Be RIM’s BlackBerry PlayBook New Ally

The BlackBerry PlayBook may have a top seat with its top leading competitors if adopted by Russian government. According to different sources, reports from several Russian newspapers – including the daily business publication RBK Daily – indicate the Russian government is considering a ban on Apple Inc.’s iPad inside government agencies due to security concerns, instead opting for more “cryptographically secure tablet PCs.” It was RIM’s security technology that helped promote BlackBerry devices to become the gold standard of mobile devices for government agencies around the world, including the Canadian government and the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation. Now let me remind you that Russia has an extreme broad of influence on the consumer market and could very well lead the BlackBerry PlayBook to flourish. This would be a true victory for RIM as it has been seeking to prioritize the PlayBook as tablet of choice for business and governments.
