Well this was a surprise. Out of all issues concerning a product developed by Research In Motion, the battery life. According to sources from analyst Kaufman Bros.Shaw Wu, the tablet is facing significant battery problems which in turn has led to a slight delay. We all know how many times these analysts have been wrong, but if true, RIM is in trouble. It makes no sense to have a standing product with BlackBerry that has excellent battery life in comparison to the competition and release a “game changing” device that cannot even keep up with the preceding device.
“[This is] likely why [RIM] pushed out its launch to the May 2011 quarter,” Wu said, referring to the March to May timeframe. “Keep in mind that QNX wasn’t originally designed for mobile environments but rather for devices like network equipment and automobiles where battery life isn’t as much [of] a constraint.”
According to the report, RIM has not had an opportunity to comment on the alleged problem. Launch date in the US is set to be between Feb and March of next year. As I mentioned above, these “analysts” have been half right on issues that have surfaced over recent years. Let’s just hope Mike, Jim and Co. have everything in the lab getting tweaked as we speak.
