QNX Software Systems Limited, a subsidiary of Research In Motion Limited and recognized global leader in software platforms for connected embedded systems, recently announced that it will be collaborating with the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, a branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (SIAT CAS), in establishing a Center of Excellence for Embedded Software Systems in China.

According to the QNX Software Systems Limited’s official announcement, “the goal of the collaboration is to enable the development of reliable and innovative software for a variety of industry sectors, including automotive, automation, healthcare, telecommunications, and transportation.”

SIAT CAS is a leading research and educational organization in China charged with evaluating a variety of technologies that will impact society when implemented in infrastructure projects. SIAT CAS and QNX Software Systems have been engaged in joint seminars and activities since 2011 to educate the embedded market on the importance of safety and security with respect to realtime operating systems. SIAT CAS has also been evaluating QNX software technology for various projects.
“We are pleased to expand our relationship with QNX Software Systems to launch the Center of Excellence for Embedded Software Systems,” said Professor T. John Koo, the founding director of the Center for Embedded Software Systems at SIAT CAS and a QNX user since 1996. “Safety and security in critical infrastructures are key requirements in China. QNX software technology is known for its reliability and is a preferred choice for mission- and safety-critical systems.”
