Not long ago, we reported that RIM announced that it will be the official sponsor of the 2011 Rugby World Cup set to be hosted in New Zealand. The Australian Rugby Union has taken a step forward and have developed two BlackBerry apps – one for smartphones and one for the tablet. MyRugby is a one stop destination for fans to find out the latest news, scores, fixtures, player profiles, previews and reviews of any matches involving the Wallabies. The application has the added bonuses of allowing fans to buy their tickets through the app (instead of waiting in line) and the ability to customize the application to their own appearance.
My Rugby TV is available on the Blackberry Playbook and is the official Mobile Video app of the Australian Rugby Union and the Qantas Wallabies. It provides fans with all the behind-the-scenes action on the Wallabies throughout season 2011. ARU Managing Director and CEO John O’Neill hailed the two new applications as two ways fans can keep up to date with information in what will be an eventful year in Rugby Union.
“These new applications provide fans with instant access on their BlackBerry smartphones and BlackBerry PlayBook tablets with up to date information and behind the scenes content, which allows them to stay informed about Rugby,” Mr O’Neill said.
“We know people are changing the way they get their Rugby news and connect with the Qantas Wallabies and their favourite Super Rugby teams, which is why we have been working to develop these applications before the International Season kicks off.”
