More jobs at BlackBerry have been cut as part of John Chen’s turnaround efforts.

In an emailed statement to Bloomberg, BlackBerry’s focus remains the same as it was 18 months ago:

“As BlackBerry moves into the next stage of its turnaround, we remain focused on driving efficiencies across our global workforce,” Kara Yi, a spokeswoman for BlackBerry, said in an e-mailed statement Monday. “As a result, some employees have been impacted.” Yi declined to comment on how many employees were affected or where they were based. The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reported the cuts earlier Monday.”

Despite successfully turning the company from bleeding cash to posting consecutive profits, job cuts is never nice and we wish the impacted employees all the best. As BlackBerry becomes more of a software player, I suppose John Chen is trimming the fat where possible in order to keep the company afloat.
