As many of you already know LiveProfile has been experiencing record breaking growth these past few days. We are not ready to release stats but we will soon. A quick Twitter search will give you an idea of the kind of growth we are seeing. We are very grateful for the early success and will continue to work around the clock to make LiveProfile the best app it can be!
In anticipation for our BlackBerry launch this week we began to upgrade our infrastructure to handle the flood of new users. Suddenly and without prior notice on March 2 around 12 PM EST we noticed a huge spike in new users joining LiveProfile. This growth continued and very soon we saw us reaching our limitations. We had no choice but to perform emergency maintenance and upgrade our infrastructure around 4 PM EST. For the last few hours service has been spotty as hundreds of thousands of users attempt to reconnect at the same minute. Issues being reported include contacts not appearing, contacts appearing unavailable when they are in fact available, delayed messages, and problems logging in.
After a long and busy day we see the service finally returning to normal. We managed to balance the influx of traffic and in the process completed many of the required upgrades for our BlackBerry launch. It could take up to a few hours for the service to fully stabilize. We know this is not by any means acceptable and we’re taking the proper precautions to prevent this from happening again. Rest assured we will not flake away like others who have tried before us.
