John Chen Would Consider Selling BlackBerry Handset Business, However Sees Profit By Next Year

John Chen MWC 2014BlackBerry CEO John Chen made a statement in an interview with Reuters that has made the media go wild with his statement “If I cannot make money on handsets, I will not be in the handset business.”  Just like any business move, if it is not making money you have to seek alternatives, however with upcoming planned BlackBerry devices John Chen does believe that handsets will begin to generate revenue by next year, 2015.

John Chen is basically open to a variety of money generating ideas for BlackBerry which isn’t unusual for those in business.


In an interview with Bloomberg:

I don’t have a plan to get rid of handsets, I have a plan to not be dependent on handsets. All I need to do is replace the handset revenue, and this company will be very different.”
