India PlayBook Launch Hosted by SuperStar, What About North America RIM?

Good Monday Empire readers. As I’m getting back into the groove of things here, I come across an article which got me thinking. See, last week when the BlackBerry PlayBook launched in India, Superstar Salman Khan was at the Grand Hyatt, Santacruz hosting the launch.

During the launching ceremony, Salman accepted the fact that he is not very well accustomed to using modern technology and the only thing electronic in which he is good is playing video games. However, Salman also mentioned that the new Blackberry Playbook with its Wi-Fi connectivity would help him stay in touch anywhere, anytime with fans and friends, making sure that he promoted the product in his own way.

This got me thinking. What would the results be if RIM adopted this strategy here in North America, mainly the USA? I know when the PlayBook first launched in North America, actress/performer, J-Lo was at a California Best Buy outlet signing autographs, but mainly promoting her latest album,”Love”. In Canada, the BlackBerry headquarters, Queen Elizabeth II has often been seen promoting BlackBerry messaging phones. Frankly, it doesn’t get larger then that, but here in the USA where RIM is being hit the hardest in terms of sales, things could be done differently.

Throughout blog posts here on BBE, there seems to be a pattern of BlackBerry loyalty when it comes to our celebrities and super stars. And if one thing is apparent, consumers tend to pay quality attention to what our stars wear and sport. Just like they had an Indian Star in Salman Khan promoting the PlayBook at launch, there needs to be a similar strategy here in the states. How about a Kim Kardashian, one of the most loyal BlackBerry users around, or how about the NBA Finals MVP Dirk Nowitzki? These are only a couple, in comparison to who has been spotted rocking a BlackBerry, just check BlackBerryCelebritySightings.

These celebrities and super stars stick to BlackBerry for a reason. Due to all of the communication along with heavy traveling they do, the BlackBerry lineup offers an efficient phone for getting things done such as tough security, unmatched messaging and email. So RIM, find someone suitable for the job and make it rain on them the way NIKE and Gatorade does because that super level marketing has been proven to be effective. Below are a few celebs, many who have been rocking BlackBerry devices since the trackball days.
