HedoneDesign’s Wakai is a Complex but Elegant Theme for Your BlackBerry Phone

Hedone Design has created a theme for your BlackBerry that is so simple but so elegant you will wonder why someone hadn’t created it before. Wakai is a theme that uses all text on the home screen to allow navigation around your BlackBerry OS5 and OS6 phone. One look at the screen will show you that this theme is the most unusual you have ever seen.

Click for much more on this fantastic theme! The menu listing on the home screen allows for over 20 apps to be opened right from there. They are grouped together logically in Phone, Media, Applications, Favorites and Theme Options. Phone includes the ability to open Contacts, Browser, Messages, SMS/MMS and BBM. Open Media tab and see all the Media components: Pictures, Videos, Music and Ringtones. These two choices alone would be plenty for me. They contain all the icons I would normally include on my home screen right there. But no, Wakai goes further; much further.

Scroll up and down with your track pad to choose an app and click when you get there. To dismiss the entire category, simply scroll up to the name again, or scroll to another category name. The Applications category contains shortcuts for the following apps: Calculator, Calendar, Notes, Tasks, Files. Wow! All your housekeeping duties can be performed right from here! Manage your Calendar, Memos and Files from this category shortcut. In such a small amount of screen real estate, you have access to 14 different apps.

Favorites is where the extraordinary meets unusual. Clicking on Favorites pops in a 6 icon dock composed of custom white icons. Want to dismiss the icon dock? Simply scroll up to another category or down to Theme Options. In those options, you will see two choices; Full Transparency or Medium Transparency. Full allows you just that; complete transparency of the text overlay on your home screen. When you click on Medium, everything darkens a bit. Using this choice over light backgrounds would make it easier to read. What’s amazing is that the guys at Hedone have thought to build this into the theme on the home screen. The home screen. No searching around to find the right option to choose.

Now that we’ve been through the App shortcuts available, let’s look at the other features of the home screen. To the left of the screen, there are two large numbers. The first is the battery meter and the one on the right is signal strength in single digits. At first I was concerned they would be intrusive, however, you don’t even notice them on your wallpaper. Look at my screen shots. They numbers are very faint and do not detract from the beauty of the theme at all.

Here is another screen shot so you can judge the faintness of the battery and signal meters for yourself.
