Government Shutdown May Mean Goodbye BlackBerry

According to reports, U.S. administration officials stated a government shutdown may lead to “non-essential” workers giving up and turning in their BlackBerry workphones. Since staffers often conduct their business on their work-issued BlackBerry smatphones, they may have to give them up in order to be in compliance. If a deal doesn’t go through by Friday, the shutdown may hit the U.S. by this weekend.

Some federal employees are preparing to reroute work email to their personal laptops, smartphones and other devices in anticipation of being able to check mail that way, even though the Committee on House Administration has suggested that workers not check email, as it falls under the category of “performing official duties.”
