For those who ride bikes for fun, excercise, or means of transportation, cycling has just got interesting. Google has updated the boundless Google Maps app today to version 4.2 for BlackBerry. The new version adds biking directions so you can figure out the optimal bike path in the US, or view a layer of bike maps or bike only trails along with bike lanes. The biking layer shows dedicated bike-only trails (dark green), roads with bike lanes (light green), or roads that are good for biking but lack a dedicated lane (dashed green).

The search has also been improved, along with added sharing features to the app. Now when you search, it will show you pictures and ratings with easy contact info. It will also let you send the info on that page by email or SMS. You can even send a snapshot of where you are on the map to a friend or realtive.

The new and improved Google Maps can be picked up here at this link >>> m.Google.com/maps from your BlackBerry browser.
