Canadian Members of Parliament Now Have Access to Twitter and Facebook via BlackBerry

For those who are interested in politics, the House of Commons has approved access to both Twitter and Facebook so MPs and their staff can utilize on their government-issued BlackBerry smartphones. The MPs will no longer need to update through web-based version, now the government will be installing the apps right on the handset.

Industry Minister Tony Clement  said in a tweet to The Canadian Press that he hopes having social media on their phones will encourage more of his colleagues to get online.

I don’t know if this is a good thing, or a bad thing yet. One thing that looks certain, a large part of bureaucratic agencies have been cut out.  Now MPs have the power to communicate with constituents directly.
