Brick Breaker isn’t a new concept on a BlackBerry Smartphone and neither is “Smarter Apps” to the BlackBerry dev scene. Smarter Apps has been working hard in bringing fun apps to the PlayBook, one of which is Brick Breakout.
Brick Breakout for BlackBerry PlayBook is a fun but challenging game. The concept is a lot like Brick Breaker and can become just as addicting.
The cool thing about the game is that your on a construction site. As you play, the background noise is that of a construction site. So while your blasting bricks away, you get a real sense for demolitioning the bricks. I enjoyed the wittiness of the game.
Another cool thing about the game is one power up in particular. In the classic Brick Breaker, one power up was the laser guns. In Brick Breakout, since the construction site gives it a mechanical feel, the futuristic lasers had no place in this game. Instead, you get a lovely machine gun to tear the bricks apart with. This is my favorite power up thus far.
One power up I’m not too fond of is the glue power up. This power up comes in a green ball. I just feel that it’s harder to get the ball going in the direction you’d like it to. It seems to get you into sticky situations.
Lastly, in a nutshell, two more cool features I enjoyed were: 1) If your playing on the go, you can simply pause it and come back to it later. 2) This is a bit of a silly one but if it’s day time, then as you play, it’s also daytime. If it’s late night, then it’s night time in the game. I liked that feature because who plays a game at two in the morning that looks bright as day?
