Some say it will be called the BlackPad, others have discovered the name “Surf’ rolling around as well. At least from what I’ve been seeing throughout the years with RIM, I highly doubt the name will just be “BlackPad”. RIM is not going to cut their distinguished marketing name in half. I just don’t see RIM doing that. Doesn’t mean they won’t go with “BlackBerry BlackPad”, but cutting their name in half just doesn’t make sense business-wise. So we might see the revamped BlackBerry 6 operating system, side by side with a separate platform run by QNX Software Systems.

The WSJ reported The RIM tablet is being manufactured by Quanta Computer Inc. of Taiwan, and will run on chips from Santa Clara, Calif.-based Marvell Technology Group Inc., according to people familiar with the tablet’s manufacturing.

If RIM does make the transition to putting QNX operating systems on BlackBerry smartphones, be prepared for a tough battle with competitors because QNX is that good.
