In an exclusive post on Reuters, four sources familiar to the matter have stated that BlackBerry is considering releasing an Android powered Smartphone.

BlackBerry previously decided not to use Android in favor of using QNX to build BlackBerry 10. However, in 2015, BlackBerry is focused on cross platform software and the Enterprise in which none of those appeal to the average consumer. Other than the Reuters article stating that the sources would not like to be identified, it isn’t yet known if BlackBerry has gotten Google’s approval to use Google’s suite of apps which include the Google Play Store and Google Play Services – the pinnacle of consumer apps. John Chen previously mentioned that he was working on an app solution. something BlackBerry, way before John Chen came on-board, has been struggling with.

BlackBerry, unsurprisingly refused to comment other than:

“We don’t comment on rumors and speculation, but we remain committed to the BlackBerry 10 operating system, which provides security and productivity benefits that are unmatched,” said the company in an email.

As of now, everything is up in the air, but where there is smoke, there’s usually fire and if one was to connect the dots, I would say it wouldn’t be a long shot if we saw an Android powered BlackBerry device this year.

Is anyone a betting man/woman?
