BlackBerry has announced the release of their first update for the BlackBerry Priv Android-powered smartphone. The update comes with improvements to the camera application, better performance, improved stability and enhanced security.

- Improved Camera – a number of tweaks have been implemented, aiming at improving the camera app’s speed and also re-tuning it for better low-light photo quality.
- Better Performance – the Priv’s software has been tweaked to improve overall system performance.
- Improved Stability – a number of adjustments have been implemented to improve the smartphone’s stability and reduce crashing and freezing.
- Enhanced Security – to top things off, the update also includes December’s security patches so that you can be assured that your smartphone is protected against the latest Android security threats.
According to BlackBerry, your smartphone will require approximately 475 MB of free storage to update.
The company has also stated to keep an eye out for coming updates to some of BlackBerry’s Android applications such as BlackBerry Hub, BlackBerry Keyboard, BlackBerry Camera, and DTEK by BlackBerry. The updated apps are expected to be available through the Google Play Store on December 14, 2015.
The improvements for these apps include :
- BlackBerry Hub & Contacts – now includes WhatsApp.
- BlackBerry Keyboard – emojis have been added to predictive typing and language support has been increased.
- BlackBerry Camera – new filters have been added to engage your artistic side.
- DTEK by BlackBerry – more notification options have been added to alert you when apps use your information.
When the update becomes available for your device, you can update by connecting to a stable Wi-Fi connection (or you can use data, but if you want to avoid data charges, you should use Wi-Fi instead) and by looking for an alert in your notification tray about the update. Alternatively, you can go to Settings -> About -> System Updates and select the “Check for Updates” button.
