BlackBerry To Meet With Lawmakers Over The Investment Canada Act (ICA)

As a possible sale of the company, BlackBerry will meet with Canadian lawmakers to discuss the Investment Canada Act according to federal lobbying documents that have been registered. The Investment Canada Act (ICA) is a Canadian Federal law governing large foreign direct investment in Canada.

The government automatically reviews any takeover bid of more than C$344 million ($332 million). – Bloomberg

Non-Canadians who acquire control of an existing Canadian business or who wish to establish a new unrelated Canadian business are subject to this Act, and they must submit either a Notification or an Application for Review. The Act and Regulations prescribe the legal responsibilities of non-Canadians investing in Canada and the information which they are required to submit.
