BlackBerry 10 Has Landed

BlackBerry Z10

Outside NY BlackBerry 10 Launch

Canadian smartphone moguls BlackBerry have finally unleashed BlackBerry 10 upon the world, accompanied by the company’s flagship device for 2013, the BlackBerry Z10. The new software is pegged to propel BlackBerry back into the top mobile manufacturer rankings, after a shaky 2012 left the company with an uncertain future.

Despite this, the Canadians have come back stronger than ever with their strongest proposition to date. Here’s an insight into a few of the operating system’s key features…

BlackBerry Z10

BlackBerry Hub

The main use for a smartphone is communication, so to make keeping in touch using BlackBerry 10 really easy, RIM has created the BlackBerry Hub. The BlackBerry Hub is an area of the smartphone that collects text, email, BBM and social network notifications in one handy place. It can be accessed with a swift right swipe of the screen, and can be accessed from any app or part of the UI so you’ll never have to leave that game you were playing to see if an important email has come through.

Screen Share

Competing with the likes of Apple’s FaceTime, BlackBerry has included BBM video calling on board BlackBerry 10, with the added bonus of the Screen Share feature. Screen Share allows users to share whatever is on their screen with the person they are video calling.

For example, you could be calling your friend to arrange a night out and want to show them a picture of the outfit you were going to buy online. With Screen Share you can show them the outfit and get their opinion before you purchase it. It’s also a great feature to use for sharing business documents whilst in a BBM video call, so you don’t have to break your discussion.

BlackBerry Balance

BlackBerrys have been famously popular with business folk in the past, and BlackBerry hasn’t forgotten this, including a feature called BlackBerry Balance. BlackBerry Balance allows the user to split the user interface of their device into two separate profiles, for example one for work data and one for personal use. Switching between the two profiles is easy with the press of a button, and all your business and home communications are kept apart.

By the looks of it BlackBerry is resurrecting itself on the back of BlackBerry 10, going into battle with Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android operating systems with all guns blazing. Only time will tell if it will be victorious, but judging by the unique features of BlackBerry 10 we imagine the public response will be very positive indeed.
