Telefonica Spain & RIM to introduce App World Carrier Billing

Telefónica one of the world’s largest telecommunications network operators has announced a partnership with Research in Motion to introduce carrier billing throuhgh App World on a global basis.

Carrier billing will allow Telefonica customers to purchase apps from BlackBerry App World and charge the purchases directly to their monthly bill, This will offer them the flexibility to make streamlined purchases without interrupting their in-app experience.

Patrick Spence, Regional Managing Director for RIM said that “BlackBerry App World is now available in over 100 countries and Integrated carrier billing will make it easier than ever for Telefonica customers to purchase apps for their BlackBerry smartphones.”

This move is said to tbe the first of its kind by an operator in Europe and is said to set the pace for other operators to follow suite and should boost Telefónica’s growth in the 25 countries that it operates in.
