BlackBerry and the Toronto International Film Festival

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) kicked off Thursday 6 September in  Toronto, Canada and BlackBerry is proud to be one of this year’s sponsors. BlackBerry went all entertainment this year setting up a booth to showcase their support for TIFF, giving three awards and the robust resourceful TIFF app for your BlackBerry and PlayBook.

The convenient official BlackBerry TIFF app is an interactive guide to this year’s TIFF and its features include:

  • Complete list of films with screening times and locations, searchable and sortable by name, date or programme – and updated in real time;
  • Read film descriptions and watch trailers;
  • Build your personal list of must-see favorites;
  • Capacity to save screening times in your calendar to help build your own schedule;
  • Choose to get automated, daily recommendations for films that match your interests;
  • Share film information with friends over Twitter, Facebook, email and SMS;
  • Get addresses, maps and directions for all venues;
  • See daily Festival highlight photos;
  • Join the conversation and follow the buzz of what’s happening and where with Twitter integration.

The official BlackBerry Video Store app for the BlackBerry PlayBook gives users access to a video catalogue filled with thousands of movies and television shows, with new releases to be made available for purchase or rent the same day they came out on DVD. With the built-in HDMI connection you can easily plug your BlackBerry PlayBook into your HDTV to enjoy videos at home.

BlackBerry People’s Choice Awards

BlackBerry sponsored awards in three categories this year and details on the TIFF website read:

You can vote for any film you see at the Festival. Films that are part of a shorts programme or TIFF Cinematheque are not eligible for the BlackBerry® People’s Choice Award. Winners will be awarded in three categories: BlackBerry® People’s Choice Award; BlackBerry Documentary Award; and BlackBerry Midnight Madness Award.
