Incipio DualPro for BlackBerry Z10

A couple weeks ago, I brought you a review of the OtterBox Defender for the BlackBerry Z10 – a very bulky case that’s big on protection. But what if you want something a little sleeker that’s still capable of protecting your Z10? Enter the Incipio DualPro. I spent the last few days with it to find out if it can satisfy those in need of some slick protection.

The DualPro takes a dual layer approach, as opposed to the three bulky layers found in the Defender. As a result, you get a case that provides a little less protection, but looks a whole look more attractive. You never get the impression that you’re carrying a brick around either, the case feels just right in your hands. It’s made up of a silicone layer covered by a polycarbonate hard shell – this shell is made out of a special blend of polycarbonate that Incipio calls Rigid Plextonium. The idea is to improve device protection while ensuring a reliable manufacturing process. Now, I didn’t dare to test the device protection merits of the DualPro, but I can say one thing for sure – the hard shell material feels extremely nice in your hand. It makes it just a little easier to give up the feeling of the Z10’s rubberized battery door. As with many cases today, the DualPro also comes with an adhesive screen protector, giving your screen some scratch protection. Incipio throws in a cleaning cloth and an applicator card as well.

The resulting case is a really rather excellent product. All the materials feel premium, look classy, and provide a good amount of protection for your Z10. The small amount of silicone covering the side bezels doesn’t seem to interfere significantly with any gestures either. And if you know how to apply the screen protector (I’m useless at this), you can rest assured that your screen will be scratch-free.

Do I have any complaints? Well, putting the case on was a little difficult – whenever I put the hard shell on top of the silicone layer, it would often shift the silicone around and trap some of it underneath the shell. A little bit of fiddling was required to make it right. The silicone also seemed to attract a fair bit of pocket lint, though that’s not necessarily a problem limited to this case. However, I’m just nitpicking to be honest – the DualPro is an absolutely excellent product for those of you who want a good balance between protection, appearance and feel.
