Thanks to the veteran CrackBerry and all the crack addicts out there, a poll Adam published not too long ago has caught my attention. With a sufficient number of respondents, the question basically asks if BlackBerry users actually use the LED notifier located on the top right of the BlackBerry device. As Adam stated, its sort of a ‘duh’ question because the LED notifier seems ideal for users. Just as he and I noticed, not everyone seems to be a fan of the LED notifier. This poll will better let us know the percentage of people who do NOT use the led notification function.

Looking at the data, we can Recode into dichotomization variables to better understand if crack addicts use the LED light or not. We are not too concerned if its the native or third party such as BeBuzz, we just want to know yes or no.
New value labels will be:
-YES, of course I use the LED notifier on my BlackBerry.
-NO, who needs distractions.
Looking at the data, 91.7% (9 out of 10) BlackBerry users do utilize the LED light on their BlackBerry and 8.3% (1 in 10) do NOT care for the LED notifier.
There you have it. This shows that 9 out of 10 BlackBerry users take advantage of the LED light located on every BlackBerry device. Going deeper, this kind of stuff can be leading factors in smartphone selection. Great battery life, durability, the option to know if you have a new message are all important features to consider when selecting a smartphone.
I’ve read that some local governments have protested that LED notifiers such as the one found on a BlackBerry can be a driving distraction and I’ve heard a few users say its plain annoying. Personally, the LED can be a distraction, especially multi color LED lights when in class and such. Other than that, I’m a big fan of the LED. Especially BerryBuzz, the 3rd party multi colored LED App.
I have emails, contacts, messengers, and other misc items all color coded so I know what’s coming to me at all times. If you want to add some color to your LED, BerryBuzz is available from BellShare

Who knows what the native BlackBerry LED in the future will look like. With “SuperApps” on the list for RIM, it wouldn’t surprise me to see something like ‘BlackBerry Alert’ or some fancy native name. What do you think?
