This coming Friday marks the unofficial shopping day known as Black-Friday. Traditionally in the United States the day after Thanksgiving, retail stores open up at the crack of dawn and offer the best deals for customers. Keep in mind the massive sale is a one day event so its usually a first come, first serve type of deal. For many years people have often lined up and fought their way into their favorite outlet stores to capitalize on these ‘great deals”
When looking at the costs and benefits of Black-Friday shopping, one must decide if its really worth it. Is it really worth the headache? Is camping out at your local shopping outlet and battling with cranky customers really worth the extra bucks saved? With this economy most people would probably sacrifice one day of hassle to save money. With 2010 almost out and 2011 near, things are done differently so you don’t have to go through the hassle and headaches to save money anymore. This year, retailers are driving customers to the Web with more specials than ever.
“It’s going to be a very competitive day,” said Kevin Mansell, chairman and chief executive of Kohl’s, the department store chain with more than 1,000 outlets nationwide, which plans to offer almost all of its Black Friday specials online beginning on Thursday. The NYTimes has reported that Web deals are wide-ranging. Walmart.com is offering discounts of up to 40 percent on almost 150 items, triple the number of specials in 2009. At Radio Shack, Best Buy,Macy’s and J. C. Penney, almost every Black Friday deal can be had online starting on Thursday. Even Web-only merchants like Amazon.com are offering steep discounts that day.
Online shopping is easier than every now especially during the holidays. You still save money with deals minus the headaches and pains of battling before the sun rises.
“Online, they have a warehouse of the stuff, so you’ll know you’ll get it — they won’t run out in a few seconds,” Ms. Prophete said. “I was like, oh, man, never mind. I’ll just shop online.”
