The BlackBerry Passport is set to launch this Wednesday with events simultaneously being held in London, Dubai and Toronto. In an interview today in Singapore, John Chen let it be known that the device will not only be available for consumers to purchase right away, but will only cost $599 in the U.S., without subsidies

He mentioned the device’s pricing will differ across different countries according to taxes and tariffs but can expect it to be cheaper than other high-end devices such as the iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy S5. The iPhone 6 costs $649 without contract in the US with the iPhone 6 plus costing from $749 without a contract.

He also said that the Passport should be priced around $700, but with the consumers interest at heart, he decided to price the device to grab the markets attention.

“But I figure that to try to get the market interested, we’re going to start a little lower than that.”

According to the same report, the Classic is set to be delayed, with now a December launch instead of November.

The “See the bigger picture” Event is on Wednesday along with BlackBerry’s Q2 2015 Earnings Report on the Friday, be sure to keep it locked in to BlackBerry Empire to stay in on the loop for all the latest news concerning BlackBerry this week.
