What a way to start off the new year for RIM, battling. In 2010 we saw the competition release “BlackBerry like” smartphones essentially for people who don’t like the BlackBerry solution. We saw the Motorola Droid Pro, which was supposed to be a BlackBerry killer but has yet to be a threat. Today, Thai phone-maker Spriiing is debuting its Smile Android smartphone with a front-facing QWERTY keyboard layout as a challenger to RIM’s BlackBerry phones. According to reports, The Smile phone is scheduled to launch in Thailand on January 18th. The Smiiile was designed in Sweden, manufactured in China by Huawei, which is known for its Ideos line of Android devices, and will be sold in Thailand.
