Some hours ago @LiveProfile Tweeted and announced that they were looking for BlackBerry Beta testers running OS5. Currently, LiveProfile is only offered to Android and iPhone users with a BlackBerry Client in the works. I was lucky enough to get my hands on the client so I’d like to share my experience with you via this blog post.
Starting out, you are prompted to sign or create an account. Being a fresh user, I’ve created my account. Once that is completed, the app will then scan your contact list for LiveProfile users and add them to your friends list for you (convenient). The homescreen UI basically has 3 main tabs on top. Your chat, updates and access to your personal profile and settings.

When in the chat, you have friend requests at the top, (only present when request is available) which resembles BBM! Then you have Chat, with your opened chat conversations followed by your friends list at the bottom. Navigating through the chats/friends tab is smooth using a BlackBerry Bold 9700.
When in a chat conversation, your friends name is on the top left with his/her convo in a light blue chat bubble. Your chat bubble is in green, located on the right side of the chat window. Similar to BBM, there is delivered and read confirmation notifcations. for a sent message, you get a small “S” next to your message. When the message is read, you get a lil “R” telling you that the person has read the message. Scrolling up to each message will tell you the exact time the message was sent/received. I’m chatting right now with friends and so far, the app is responsive with delivering and receiving messages.
Exiting the chat tab and going onto the next, “update” i’m prompted with a “loading updates..” message and then a blank screen. Since this is an early beta, obviously not everything is functional yet.
Next is my personal profile and settings tab. Here you can edit your profile and even with ease, copy your PIN. The good thing about LiveProfile is that it is pin based to adding friends is easy. You can also update your status via Twitter and Facebook. I’ve tried to do it, but no luck with this beta v1.1. Next is ‘add friend.’ The app lets you manually enter friends by PIN or auto scans your address book for contacts using live Profile. The app will also locate Facebook friends as well as share on Facebook along with Twitter. These features, do work, i’ve tested them. Next is your settings so you can adjust sound, and other small general options. Last is a photos tab which will update your profile picture.
That’s pretty much it for now. The app looks promising if it can stay our of any legal battles such as the one Kik went through last season. The app reminds me of Kik in its speed and ease. A nice and simple cross platform chat app. Not to discredit the other cross platform chat apps out there, this beta is better than some alphas out. The Ui is good, and the functionality is nice. IMO, what will keep this LIVE will be SPEED. let’s hope the final version delivers.
