Decoded: New Samsung Ad Bashes BlackBerry

It seems like trolling is not for the fans alone as Samsung recently released an ad directly bashing the iPhone and especially BlackBerry. The video shows a guy sending emails while watching a game on his Galaxy Note in an effort to highlight the device’s multi-tasking capabilities, that’s great but not when you are appealling to people that get things done. I’d be fired in a heartbeat for watching a game while closing a deal with a high profile client. Check the video and a few more thoughts below.

What’s The Best Way To Recycle Older BlackBerry Phones?

When cell phones first hit the market back in the 1990s they were big, expensive, heavy and only ever used by businessmen with more money than sense. Then as time and technology progressed the phones became smaller, cheaper and found their niche in the mass market – they had reached their tipping point where everyone could now afford a cell phone so that made everyone want their own cell phone. But things got a bit crazy and people wound up owning 2 or 3 blackberries because they had pictures on one they didn’t want to lose and then phone numbers on another one they wanted to keep – our society struggles to dispose of things that we no longer really need. It’s like some weird electronic hoarder complex.

RIM Stocks Up, Rumours Start

Research in Motion’s (RIMM) stock rose today over 5%,  is continuing to climb, and is currently sitting at 14.19 per share, apparently for no reason.  One analyst, Collin Gillis with BGC Partners spoke with Tiernan Ray of Barrons and said “that the proximate cause, as far as he can tell, is discussion that Samsung Electronics is looking to make a minority investment in the company and to develop phones based on RIM’s forthcoming “BBIO” operating system, which RIM is counting on to resuscitate the company’s phone portfolio.”

Study Proves Android Phones Break More than BlackBerry or Apple – Here’s Why!

According to a study done by the WSD (Wireless Data Services), Android handsets break more than BlackBerry and or Apple. Over a 12 month period WDS has tracked how consumers interact with the Android ‘ecosystem’, including analysis of 600,000 technical support calls, to identify the platform’s ‘cost-of-ownership’for operators. Their findings concluded that many operator systems and processes have not kept pace with Android’s growth, adding additional strain to infrastructure and business models. The reason is due to Android’s costly hardware in comparison to Apple’s iPhones and RIM’s BlackBerry. Cheaper Android models which cost very little to make have leveraged Android as a dominant platform in smartphones, attracting dozens of manufacturers ranging from Samsung, Motorola, HTC, and even some unknown Asian manufacturers.

BlackBerry Brand Value Declines 25%, Now Worth $3.3 Billion

Being the stats nerd that I am along with being a huge BlackBerry fannatic, I couldn’t help but to post on this article that surfaced which has measured the BlackBerry brand value over recent years. According to the study from Brand Finance,  the BlackBerry brand value has decreased  by almost 25% since January of this year. The London-based Brand Finance calculates a brand value by forecasting the royalties that would accrue to a brand holding if that company licensed the brand to an operating company. In January, Brand Finance figured BlackBerry was worth $4.36 billion.Since then, it has dropped to $3.3 billion (see chart above). “Blackberry has also failed to recently capture the hearts and minds of consumers globally in the way that Apple has managed to do,” stated the release announcing the findings. “The Blackberry Playbook tablet device has struggled since its launch last April and has disappointed investors by failing to meet initial targets.”

Numbers Say iPad outselling RIM PlayBook 19 to 1

According to business reports, it’s been estimated that for every 1 PlayBook that is shipped, 19 iPads from Apple are sipped within the Q1 period. Analysts are guesstimating around 490,000 PlayBooks during the first full quarter of sales, and have cut estimates for full-year PlayBook shipments to an average of 2.2 million, says a Bloomberg survey of analysts “RIM overplayed the PlayBook in terms of its sales and prospects,” said Charlie Wolf, an analyst at Needham & Co. in New York. “What this really shows is that the company’s prospects will depend on the next generation of BlackBerrys.”
