Stay Classy McDonalds

This doesn’t tie to BlackBerry at all but its so absurd, I’d thought i’d share. While on my BlackBerry though, I was Facebooking through SocialScope and came across this article a former classmate posted. The incident was reported in a McDonald’s restaurant in Ohio where the franchise owner attached a memo to the employees paychecks. Apparently, unless Republicans win, they (employees) won’t get raises or benefits. As you may know it, elections are right around the corner on November 2nd. As eager as the Republicans are to get their candidates into office, they went a little too far with this one. Sure its good to be involved with politics, and have firm partisanship. However, threatening your empolyees and violating their constitutional rights is not fair game. Check out below what the memo actually said.

“As the election season is here we wanted you to know which candidates will help our business grow in the future,” reads the letter. “As you know, the better our business does it enables us to invest in our people and our restaurants. If the right people are elected we will be able to continue with raises and benefits at or above our present levels. If others are elected, we will not. As always, who you vote for is completely your personal decision and many factors go into your decision.”

A pretty serious note to receive from your employer isn’t it? According to the article, when a corporation like McDonald’s intimidates its employees into voting a specific way, it violates both state and federal election law. Legal representation has been hired to look into the matter and investigate if any criminal or fraudulent acts were intended, so it  will be interesting to see what happens if it lands into the court system. We’ll see what role checks and balances plays here.
