Proof Of Concept Trials To Begin In November For BlackBerry’s IoT Tracking Box

BlackBerry has created a 200mm rugged, weather-proof asset tracking box with a built-in battery and an IP67 rating. According to an article via Indian Express with Dr Chennakeshu, more information has been revealed about the box.

Dr. Chennakeshu, who was given his position back in August last year, has been working on the box.

“The box could be used to track a very expensive car, for instance or use it to track children or police cars. I went after a specific market because it is massive with 177 million trucks, but the uses could be much more varied.” – Dr Chennakeshu.

Thanks to The Indian Express, we know that BlackBerry will begin proof of concept trials for the box in November :

“It is 100 per cent our design and concept. We have patented it and will start proof of concept trials in November… I am very proud of my guys. This has never been done before, not with power of its own.” – Dr Chennakeshu.

Dr Chennakeshu also mentioned that the idea was to build it cheap and have a non-time consuming install process (can be installed in less than 10 minutes for example). The hardware, cloud service and the BlackBerry app will be offered as a subscription model. One can also choose not to lease the box as well.
