OtterBox Impact Series Case for the BlackBerry Bold 9900 / 9930 [review]

I recently bought an OtterBox Impact Series Case for the BlackBerry Bold 9900 and wanted to share my thoughts on the buy. I’ve owned other OtterBox cases in the past and I’ve definitely a fan. They’re durable and make your device feel nearly invincible.

The Impact Series Case for the Bold is a bit different.

The description on the site reads as follows:

“The OtterBox Impact Series for BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 is perfect for folks who want a simple case that is easy to take on and off. What sets this case apart from other “skins?” Well, the OtterBox Impact Series is designed with coring inside the silicone. This waffle-like design dissipates impact pressure away from your device to keep it safe from the occasional bump or shock. Included with the case is a self-adhering touch screen protector.”

The reason I choose to do this review is because I don’t know anyone who has ever bought the Impact Series case. It’s true, it’s easy to take on and off. Yet, it’s far from a skin. It makes the phone bulkier and my 9900 doesn’t look like a 9900. Sure, if I bought the Defender Series Case, I’d sacrifice the looks to have the protection but owning the thinnest BlackBerry ever, bulkiness is not something I’d want from a “skin”.

Another thing about the case that I didn’t really like is that it attracts dust like a vacuum cleaner. It sticks and sometimes rubbing it off isn’t enough. You’ll have to pick at the dust to get it off.

On the flipside to this all, unfortunately, I have dropped my phone a handful of times already. Each time that it has dropped, I’ve been more than thankful for have the Impact Series case on. I wonder how much does it actually protect but at the very minimum, it’s thickness must be absorbing a good portion of the impact, hence it’s name

Obviously, the price point should indicate how invincible your phone could be. The top of the line ‘Defender Series Case’ comes in at a whooping $49.95. The midline is the ‘Commuter Series Case’ which sells for $34.95. And lastly, the case I bought and wrote about, the ‘Impact Series Case’, which I bought for $19.95.

The Impact Series Case has gotten the job done until now. I don’t intend on changing it despite the negatives I pointed out. As I reread the article, it seems to be more negative than positive (which isn’t a bad thing in a review). However, the Impact Series, in my opinion, is a case that does what it promises. This is why I’ve kept it and will continue to use it. What are your thoughts? How important is protection to your BlackBerry? Let us know below.
