Hey RIM, Some Advertising Wouldn’t Hurt

I am a diehard RIM fan as much as anybody that comes to read about BlackBerry news on our site. However, one of the reasons why RIM is on the verge of losing it all long with valuable market share is their failure to advertise. RIM has long been a valuable asset, even today to ITs’ and because of their reputation and workmanship have never had to advertise. This has been due to the BlackBerry being an enterprise device, but now even that audience is shifting to a cooler-looking device which provides great functionality and RIM is scrambling on what to do to in order to regain some of it back while the rest of us hold on for dear life hoping that RIM will deliver a great new round of devices, something new that will make the others envy us, or hoping the PlayBook finally gets its act together so that you can finally have a reason to go and buy it.  Either way you cut it, RIM is in trouble!  So what can RIM do to get out of the gutter?  Advertise!

I see the dumbest things being sold and people falling for them on tv all the time but I had never seen a BlackBerry commercial until recently when they finally started advertising for the PlayBook. One of the main reasons that it hasn’t taken off in the U.S. is because it’s lack of functions and features which have made quite a few people to include myself frustrated. Advertise about what you say?  Well, advertise about what makes them special, what makes a “BlackBerry” a “BlackBerry”.

What makes a BlackBerry special you ask- how about its BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), which you can message friends and family internationally without having to incur international fees.  How about their encryption- many people complain about how long a PlayBook or a BlackBerry phone takes to boot up but many do not understand this is due to their encryption that is built into the device itself. I don’t know about you but in this day in age, I’d rather trust my identity to a trusted source than an iPhone per se and I definitely don’t mind waiting a couple minutes  for my device to boot up.  Next, how about they focus on battery life?  The only real competitor that comes close to having the type of battery life BlackBerry phones have is the arch nemesis- the newest iPhone.

In closing, I want to add that I just mentioned only a handful of the things that make it special but the thing I want RIM to take from this– the fight isn’t over and there are many followers worldwide that believe in this company and the quality of work they do but if they don’t use the proper tools available today…like any other superpower- they will perish!
