First Time Developer Wins a Trip to DevCon as App Master, Says Tablet Dev is the Future

A story like this rarely gets media exposure but yet proves the value in RIM, makers of the BlackBerry. A citizen of South Africa has won the PlayBook dev award for his Salon Queen app which is designed to grow a business and assist in retaining customers, a vision Diedericks had. What really makes this story special is that this is Diedericks’ first time in developing an app from scratch and according to him, “There’s a big future for tablets because it’s such a new technology. The PlayBook is a bit easier for me. BlackBerry has made it a bit easier for developers with the tools they provide; they’ve really opened it up wide,”

“Now that this PlayBook came around, it created this whole new range of opportunities, and it’s the first time I’ve got involved with BlackBerry process of starting with an app and building it to the end.”

As for other platforms, he found them to be confusing such as the Android OS and preferred coding for PlayBook because of its simplicity. Diedericks has now earned himself a trip to DevCon Americas this October where he will showcase his app and take back with him to his country of South Africa, a free BlackBerry PlayBook.
