Does your BlackBerry 10 device wipe the settings and show a blue LED after a reboot? Here’s the fix.

If you are one of the folks that have the dreaded blue LED issue when you upgrade to 10.3 then we have some great news for you, BlackBerry has issued a fix. For those of you that don’t know what we are talking about there’s quick description below.

Some folks that have updated from OS 10.2.1 to the latest 10.3 update have run into an issue where the device will reset all the changes made to it after a reboot (sorta like a factory wipe does). When the device does complete the reboot it will show a blue LED and would skip the normal setup wizard that we have become use to. This issue seems to be effecting devices that were refurbished from different carriers.

Well after many folks reached out to BlackBerry through their support forums there is now a fix for anyone that needs it. We have pulled the knowledge base article to help you with getting your device running perfectly again.

Environment

  • BlackBerry 10 OS versions 10.3.1.2267 and 10.3.1.2243
  • JI 878437

Overview
In some cases, when the BlackBerry 10 smartphone is manually restarted, all data is removed. A blue LED is displayed during the device start up.

This manual restart may have been initiated by any of the following methods:

  • Choosing the option to  Restart after pressing the Power button.
  • Long press of the  Power button.
  • Removing and reinserting the battery.

Resolution
Complete the following steps on a computer running Windows:

  • Ensure the latest version of BlackBerry Desktop Software (BlackBerry Link / BlackBerry Blend) for Windows is installed. The latest version is available here: http://www.blackberry.com/Blend.
  • Connect the BlackBerry 10 device to the computer.
  • Wait for the device to be detected by the computer and for Windows to complete the driver installation.
  • Download and save the following ZIP file to the Desktop on the computer: BlackBerryFix.zip
  • Once downloaded, double-click the BlackBerryFix.zip file to open the ZIP file, then double-click the BlackBerryFix.exe file to run the tool.
  • When the BlackBerry Fix window displays, confirm that the PIN number for the BlackBerry 10 device is displayed and click Fix this phone .

So there you have it, all those of you that had this issue can now enjoy the 10.3.1 update and not worry about resetting your device. I have done these steps on my sister’s BlackBerry Z10 (she has had the issue in the past) and all is well again.
