BlackBerry’s Android-powered slider may be called the BlackBerry Priv

The upcoming Android-powered slider from BlackBerry will be called the BlackBerry Priv, according to a tweet from famed smartphone leaker @evleaks.

Up until now, the device has been referred to either as the Slider or by its internal codename, Venice. The tweet from @evleaks offers no explanation as to where the  name comes from, though some have speculated that it might be short for ‘privacy,’ suggesting that BlackBerry’s version of Android may pack some privacy-enhancing features. Initial reactions to the name on Twitter have been very negative, especially after the phone spent months being referred to by the name of a glamorous Italian city.

The device is expected to launch in November, featuring a 5.4-inch QHD display, Snapdragon 808 processor, 3GB of RAM, 18MP camera, and 5MP front-facing camera. It is said to be running Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, with some modifications by BlackBerry.

Update: @evleaks has revealed another image of the device. It doesn’t show us anything new, but it sure looks like a device deserving of a better name than Priv.
