A report coming from the Cantech Letter that BlackBerry has continued with their layoffs and pretty much cut several dozen jobs today in the United States, sales force position employees were affected. This report was confirmed to WSJ via a BlackBerry spokesman:
“I can confirm a small number of employees were laid off today,” a company spokesman said, without providing additional details.
The source report says consumer sales is basically “gone” and “enterprise is gutted”. All this is part of the strategic alternative that BlackBerry has sought out to keep the company alive, cutting back on employees has been happening a lot more than expected. More job cuts in the U.K reportedly coming within the next few days. As the company is rumored to being “close to” sold this could be a reasoning for more of the job cuts, guess we will have to wait to see the outcome as no official statements regarding the company being bought have been reported.
UPDATE: Here is an offical statement from BlackBerry that was sent to Mobilesyrup concerning these layoffs.
“I noticed that you referenced the Cantech Letter regarding BlackBerry’s salesforce and thought I’d clarify that we are moving a small number of US-focused sales roles that were based in Canada to the US to be more closely aligned with our customers. As previously stated, we are in the second phase of our transformation plan. As part of this transformation, BlackBerry will continually evaluate its organization – from top to bottom – to ensure we have the right people, with the right skills in the right locations to drive new opportunities in mobile computing.”
