BlackBerry App World

BlackBerry App World was released March 31st 2009. It has been a good source of useful applications for Blackberry users since its release. It currently houses thousands of RIM supported, “official” applications. The truth is, BlackBerry App World has dedicated developers, has been growing rapidly since its release and growth won’t halt any time soon. I have a personal connection to the app world that may help you understand its roots and why you should take full advantage of it. Hit the more button if this interest you.

When I purchased my first GSM BlackBerry, the app world was in use. My App World origins date back to my Curve 8900 on T-Mobile, June 2009. When I first started on my 8900 it had the App World stock. I was still new to smartphones and no idea what the deal was with using one. After about a month of looking around, I found out about what applications could do for your device and started to utilize that ability. There weren’t that many apps available so, I was still limited. Next, I found out about Crackberry.com and with that discovery came more applications, themes and add-ons that I found to be very useful. As my addiction for my Curve grew, the app world did too. I was using my berry more and more as RIM added new developer tools to their website giving the average developer the capability of creating new and improved apps.

Blogging was more serious and apps became key in using a smartphone. Android was becoming popular among app users and the iTunes app store wouldn’t stop growing. As a BB user I wondered when I was going to be able to open up the App World and just download app after app. Now, is that necessary? I doubt it, but, as smartphone users, we love the option of having whatever we want at our finger tips. That’s why other application distributors are successful today. This year RIM released App World 2.0 and with that came a much needed visual refresh plus application availability for most users across the world. We have access to popular cross-platform apps along with native themes. Some of these applications were developed well enough to allow BlackBerry 6 to support them. RIM has taken the App World and turn into something that all of us can enjoy. Just the other day I checked the app world and found a slew of applications that I had no idea were being developed. The way I see it, everyone should to utilize the app world as quickly and as often as possible. I hope this article gave you some insight, even if very minor, on the App World.
