In an effort to try to resolve these issues, the telenav blog has provided with some common fixes so you can get back up running and navigating.! More button for the fixes. Hope this resolves everyone’s issue.

Is your phone personal or company issued?

If you speak with one of our support members, this is very likely one of the first questions they’ll ask you. Why? You’ll be asked this because if your phone is issued to you through your company, you may be experiencing problems because of the permissions (or lack thereof) set by your IT department. These settings have to do with your employer’s BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES) and often, the company will set server restrictions that will interfere with our navigation software.

If you think this might be the situation you’re in, you should check with them to see if you’ve been given the proper permissions to use your BlackBerry 9800’s GPS capabilities.

BES: Should I contact my company’s IT department?

If you’re not sure if you should contact your company’s IT department about changing your BES restrictions, here’s an easy way to figure it out.

1) Select “Options” within TeleNav GPS Navigator

2) Next click “Device”

3) Select “Application Management”

4) Select AT&T Maps and AT&T Navigator

5) Select “Edit Permissions”

6) Make sure Connections, Interactions, and User Data are all set to “ALLOW”

If these permissions cannot be changed, then you need to contact your BES Administrator or company’s IT department to change these settings. When you contact your BES Admin., have them relax restrictions for AT&T/TeleNav GPS Navigator.

PROBLEM: GPS is not automatically being enabled by AT&T Navigator

Another common problem occurs when your BlackBerry 9800’sGPS is not automatically being enabled in AT&T Navigator. Obviously, for any user this would be extremely frustrating but thankfully, it’s an easy fix.

You see, the AT&T Navigator software follows the settings set outside of the application and many times, the GPS setting is OFF. That means if your phone’s GPS setting is set to off,” then no application within your phone will be able to utilize GPS (without having to manually turn it on within the application).

To check these settings, follow these steps:

* Go to Options and GPS
* Make sure “Location On” is set it to YES.
* If the location is set to ON within the device, it will allow the navigation software to connect to GPS every time it tries to retrieve driving directions. However if the device is indoors or cannot retrieve GPS a manual GPS Refresh will need to be completed.

If you need to refresh your GPS coordinates:

On all BlackBerry devices, first make certain that you in an area of good signal coverage and outside with a clear view of the sky in an open area of no tall buildings.

For GSM network devices, do this:

Click Options > Advanced > GPS > Menu > Refresh GPS.

Give it up to 10 minutes to refresh, and try 2-3 times in a row.

PROBLEM: Unable to locate satellites, NO GPS, or Weak GPS

Here is another fairly common occurrence. While trying to use TeleNav on your phone, you receive a message stating that you’re unable to locate satellites, there is no GPS, or a very weak signal. For those of you receiving these messages, here is a quick fix:

1) First, double check and make sure your device LOCATION is ON.

* Within TeleNav GPS Navigator, select “Options”
* Then select “Device”
* Select “Location Settings”
* GPS Data Source should be set to “Device GPS”
* Additionally, “Location Services” should be set to “Location On”

2) Once you’ve ensured that “Location is “On,” step outside and complete 2-3 “GPS Refreshes.” To do this, follow these steps:

* Select “Options”
* Select “Device”
* Select “Location Settings”
* Press the “Menu” key and select “Refresh Location”

If refreshing the GPS on your BlackBerry was successful, the last update column should report the current date and time. If you’re still having problems with this, please let us know in the comments section below or by contacting, christophers@telenav.com.

Tips on Using GPS

In order to get information for navigation, devices are equipped with a GPS receiver that uses signals from satellites orbiting the earth. If this is your first GPS device, the following tips will help you get started.

* When using GPS, make sure you are outside with a clear view of the sky, and no buildings or trees are in the way.

* Remain stationary to acquire the initial GPS signal before you start your journey.

* The time to acquire the first GPS signal of the day may take up to 2-3 minutes, so please be patient.

* Keeping your device powered on will help make getting subsequent GPS signals much faster during that same day.
